Course Description

Welcome to Essential Coaching Techniques, a course focused broadly on the field and practice of coaching. This course has two purposes:

  1. To introduce you to the fundamentals of coaching, regardless of discipline or focus
  2. To provide you with exercises that will prepare you to begin your coaching practice, and provide you with real tools for working with clients

This course lays a comprehensive foundation for coaching, introducing topics, techniques, and approaches that coaches implement across disciplines in their work to help their client base succeed. Students who enroll in this course will work through fifteen comprehensive topics. The lessons will define the specific topic, explain its significance for coaches and their coachees, and provide exercises that correlate with these topics. This structure will allow you to build a toolbox of techniques and may help you define your coaching methodology. The course is broken into the following fifteen lessons:

  • Demonstrate the ability to conduct creative exercises to enhance coaching strategies and inspire creativity in coachees.
  • Utilize mind mapping techniques to explore and solve complex issues effectively, demonstrating improvement in critical and creative thinking skills.
  • Apply centering exercises and the Socratic Method during coaching sessions to enhance client focus, mindfulness, and critical thinking, fostering transformative learning experiences.
  • Define and implement pre-session check-ins to effectively prepare coachees for productive sessions by assessing their current project status and emotional readiness.
  • Define modeling as a learning technique by observing and imitating behaviors or skills within a coaching context.
  • Demonstrate the ability to develop successful client behaviors through structured modeling exercises by identifying, mapping, and detailing actionable steps.#
  • Define productive feedback and its impact on coachee motivation and behavior change by describing its supportive nature and focus on problem-solving.
  • Demonstrate the application of a structured feedback exercise by engaging stakeholders to establish confidentiality and a consistent feedback loop for coaching improvement.
  • Define the five perceptual positions of the meta mirror and explain their individual purposes to gain new insights into situations.
  • Demonstrate mastery of lesson content at levels of 70% or higher.
