Learning Outcomes

By successfully completing this course, students will be able to:
  • Define the historical evolution of knitting, including its origins and societal impact across various cultures.
  • Identify and describe the characteristics of different knitting needles and yarns, explaining how they influence the knitting process and final product.
  • Summarize the history of knitting.
  • Demonstrate how to make a slip knot and successfully place it on the needle in five attempts.
  • Identify and apply a comfortable method of holding needles and yarn that maintains consistent stitch tension throughout practice sessions.
  • Prepare for knitting.
  • Demonstrate purling and binding off.
  • Demonstrate the Simple Cast On method by creating a slip knot on the needle and casting on 20 stitches using the e-wrap technique.
  • Perform the Long Tail Cast On method by estimating the correct yarn tail length and casting on 20 stitches for a flexible edge.
  • Define essential knitting terms such as skein of yarn, working yarn, and slip knot to accurately describe their roles in knitting.
  • Demonstrate checking your gauge, combinations and ribbing.
  • Differentiate between Continental and English knitting styles by demonstrating how each method handles the working yarn.
  • Demonstrate knitting in the round and alternate needles.
  • Demonstrate mastery of lesson content at levels of 70% or higher.
