Practical Spanish

Practical Spanish is self-paced and covers the basics on Spanish grammar, vocabulary and expressions from a practical point of view. Units 1 to 4 explain the basics, and the rest of units include concrete subjects like time expressions, Spanish numbers, etc. The work will be based on them. This course is intended to be as practical as possible. The instructor has also included an easy and basic reference to Spanish pronunciation, to help students understand how to pronounce each word.

This course does not require any previous education or experience. If you are interested in learning Spanish, you are welcome! This Course consists of 5 lessons, 5 related assignments and 5 quizzes/tests. A grade of 70% or higher is required to pass the course. The grading policy is based on contribution to each lesson discussion (there are five lessons and five discussions) (30%) and on completion of the assignments and test (70%) Final grades: 100-95 = A ; 94-80 = B ; 79-70 = C; 69 and below = D.

Instructor Angeles Fernandez was born in Spain. She has 3 years - English Philology (Spanish University)including English Phonetics, grammar and literature; Latin; Spanish grammar. 3 years in English at the Spanish Official School of Languages. 3 years in French at the Spanish Official School of Languages. First Certificate of English (Cambridge University).

Welcome to Practical Spanish. Do you want to learn about the origin of this language, its grammar, how to build simple sentences and understand the main differences between Spanish and English?

This course teaches the Spanish spoken in Spain (where this language was born!). Anyone interested in this language can learn the basics, as this course does not require special skills or previous knowledge. Instructor Angeles Fernandez -Spanish native-speaker- will teach you the essentials. You'll have the opportunity to join our Chat Group and practice or ask any question you may have. So, enroll and enjoy learning this language!

Lesson 1: Unit 1 The Origin of the Spanish Language

Hola! Hello! Welcome to Practical Spanish! The first step is to understand how Spanish Language was born and the different influences received from others languages: English, French,... etc.

Lesson 2: Unit 2 The First Step: Simple Sentences in Spanish

The first step to understand how Spanish Language works, will be using very simple sentences and studying their components. This lesson explains how Personal Pronouns and Indefinite Articles are used in Spanish.

Lesson 3: Unit 3 Verbs Haber and Tener

This unit covers the use and basics about two important Spanish verbs: Haber and Tener.

Lesson 4: Unit 4 Spanish Adjectives, Definite Articles and Verbs Ser and Estar

This unit explains how Spanish adjectives, definite articles and verbs "ser" and "estar" must be used. We will use practical examples.

Lesson 5: Unit 5 Numbers in Spanish

This Unit explains the use, pronunciation and some rules about Spanish numbers, from 1 to 100.

Lesson 6: Unit 6. Qu hora es? What time is it?

After having studied Spanish numbers, you are now prepared to learn some useful expressions of time.

Lesson 7: Unit 7. Adjetivos Posesivos - Los colores.

Unit 7 includes 2 sections: grammar and practical vocabulary; 1. Grammar point: the definition and listing/translation of Spanish possessive adjectives and their use. 2. Practical vocabulary: "Los colores" (Colors).

Lesson 8: Unit 8. Greetings. Negative and Interrogative sentences.

This Unit includes two main points: 1.- Spanish greetings dialog. " Hola! C mo est s?" (Hello! How are you?)". 2.- Negative and Interrogative sentences.
